Hairdresser Cor is a phenomenon in Heemskerk. Although his son Martijn now runs the hair salon on Rijksstraatweg in Heemskerk, he is still the signboard. He is also when the barber shop is traditionally converted into a fireworks shop at the end of the year.
All hairdressing furniture outside, cover the mirrors, tape the floor and set up racks on which the fireworks will be displayed and can be sold from Thursday. This morning it happened exactly for the fiftieth time. “I once started with my father because the last week of the year at the end of the year was always a quiet time and we could earn a little extra. And now I’ve been doing it with my sons for years. Very nice,” says hairdresser Cor (Zonneveld).
National ban
He hopes to be able to continue doing this for years to come, but of course knows that there are already municipalities that ban the lighting of fireworks and that a national ban is getting closer and closer. “Although the pressure from the government is increasing, I think we can continue for a few more years. But then people will have to behave properly. If there is rottenness everywhere, then next year will be over.”
