Hair, anti-hair loss PRP treatment: what is it

«The Hair PRP method allows you to exploit the action of growth factors in platelet-rich plasma for skin and scalp regeneration autologous” explains the Prof. Sergio Noviello, Medical Director of the Bat Center Milan. Outpatient treatment, it is suitable for female and male hair and acts directly on the cells of the scalp and hair, thus counteracting hair loss.

“It’s surely one of the techniques capable of giving greater results in this sector. Autologous skin and scalp regeneration via PRP involves the use of plasma in which growth factors released by platelets are immersed. These perform tissue repair and regeneration functions. Among the main effects of the method there are a rebalancing of cellular metabolism, a stimulation of reparative phenomena, an increase in cellular turnover and, as regards the trichological aspect, a normalization of hair loss” explains the expert.

Plasma and platelets that strengthen hair

Specifically, how does this treatment work? «We proceed with a taking a blood sample from the patient. After centrifuging in a special machine that separates the plasma containing platelets and growth factors, the fluid obtained from the sample is used for autologous skin and scalp regeneration through specific applications involving the use of low frequency ultrasound».

For whom it is indicated

As the expert explains, after the treatment, the increase in hair density can fluctuate between 18-25%: “It’s a very suitable treatment both for baldness and in case of physiological hair loss regardless of the cause, with visible results from the first session.”

In fact, the protocol provides «a cycle of four sessions which can be alternated with four others of hyaluronic acid combined with growth factors, including polynucleotides, amino acids, vitamins, fatty acids, flavonoids, antioxidants. A session is recommended approximately every 4 weeks.”

When do you recommend this type of treatment? «I would say when the density of the hair is affected in front of the life changes or stress, or if you are following a diet that weakens them or are taking medications which have negative effects on the hair.”

Contraindications to PRP hair treatment

«Definitely this type of treatment It is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, however, is very useful in the next phase. It is not recommended in case of active infections or haemostasis problems. It is also not suitable for those with extensive alopecia that persists over the years or in the absence of hair follicles in the area to be treated. In these cases it is preferable to resort directly to an autotransplant.”

A treatment which, as Prof. Noviello underlines, he does not need hospitalization or hospitalization because he has no skin problemsif not a slight redness, for this reason the hair can be washed the next day.

In general it is one atraumatic technique, in fact there is no swelling or pain during or after treatment nor do any aesthetic blemishes appear. However, some small precautions are necessary: «In the days immediately following the treatment it is preferable avoid frequenting baths, saunas, swimming pools and gyms, solariums. Furthermore, cosmetic products should not be applied to the part of the scalp affected by the treatment in the first few days” concludes the expert.
