BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The Green Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck viewed the coalition agreement in the weeks-long budget dispute as evidence of the cohesion of the ailing alliance. “What more unpopular thing is there for politicians than to decide on burdens for the population? And we bear this together, no one shirks responsibility,” said the Federal Economics Minister on ZDF’s “Heute Journal” on Wednesday evening. “That’s why this is more of a day that shows again what this government can achieve.”
He showed understanding for the broad criticism of the decisions made by the leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP, but called for insight into the necessity. “That’s an unreasonable expectation for certain parts of the population or for certain sectors of the economy. That’s not nice, and I understand the displeasure. But it’s the only conceivable answer,” said Habeck. And: “Not only is it all a burden, but we also defend the relief.” The minister pointed out that the state continues to charge electricity customers the costs of the levy to promote green electricity (EEG levy). “You’ve probably gotten used to it.”/and/DP/men
