Haarlemmer (39) arrested in Ibiza for money laundering and drug trafficking

A 39-year-old man from Haarlem has been arrested in Ibiza by the Spanish police. He is suspected of drug trafficking and large-scale money laundering. Police seized more than a ton of cash, expensive watches, designer bags and a vehicle, among other items.

The man was arrested on November 21 and is suspected of participating in an organized criminal organization.

This organization is said to be involved in the international movement of sums of cash and drug trafficking. According to the investigation, the organization is estimated to have moved more than €6 million in cash, suspected of originating from crime.

Cash, crypto and designer

The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation that the North Holland police started on January 23, 2023. The Haarlemmer could be identified on the basis of an Ikea carpet that could be seen in photos of stacks of banknotes that he sent via special encrypted telephones.

After the arrest, three homes and two safes were searched. During these searches, approximately 140,000 euros in cash was seized. In addition, the police have seized cryptocurrency, bank accounts, several luxury watches, designer women’s bags, valuable wines, more bank accounts and a vehicle.

The investigation is still in full swing and the man will soon be handed over to the Dutch police.
