In his last game for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Erling Haaland said goodbye with a goal against Hertha BSC. After the game, the Norwegian addressed a few emotional words to the BVB fans.
“It was no less than a pleasure and an honor to wear this jersey,” wrote the 21-year-old on Instagram and addressed the supporters in a video in German after the game.
“I experienced unforgettable moments, met special people and extraordinary teammates – not to mention the fans who were always our extra man on the pitch. The Yellow Wall is truly incredible and something you experience at least once in your life I’ll never forget any of it. Thanks to all of you,” Haaland continued in his emotional post.
Haaland is moving from BVB to Manchester City
BVB officially announced last Tuesday that the top striker would be leaving the club in the summer and moving to top English club Manchester City. The goalgetter’s contract contained an exit clause of 75 million euros. That’s why there had been speculation about a summer transfer of the shooting star for months.
Haaland said goodbye to the Borussia fans in the stadium on Saturday with much applause. His penalty goal in the meantime 1-1 against the capital club was a key to the home win and ensured a worthy farewell to Dortmund.
All in all, the last game of the Westphalia season was overlaid by various farewells. In addition to Haaland, goalkeepers Roman Bürki and Marwin Hitz as well as Axel Witsel, Dan-Axel Zagadou and club icon Marcel Schmelzer are also leaving the club.
For the outgoing manager Michael Zorc, who is leaving the club as a player and official after a total of 44 years, the fans have meanwhile turned the south stand into a memorial.
