Steffen Tigges has been an integral part of the professional squad at Borussia Dortmund this season. After his second Bundesliga goal against Hertha BSC at the weekend, the substitute for BVB superstar Erling Haaland draws a positive first round conclusion.
In the championship, BVB lost touch with the top of the table and is a full nine points behind Ligakrösus FC Bayern in the first half of the series.
Steffen Tigges himself watched most of the time and has not played a single time from the start under the new Dortmund head coach Marco Rose.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old is somewhat in agreement with the first half of 2021/2022 in the BVB jersey: “I think I can basically be satisfied with the first half of the season,” the striker told club media.
“I’ve now scored my second Bundesliga goal, so I’m so far satisfied. But there are still things that I have to improve in every respect, and I’ll just keep working on that,” added Tigges.
After the native Osnabrück was the top scorer for BVB II in the Regionalliga West with 22 goals in the past season and the U23 of the Black-Yellows shot to promotion to the 3rd division, he was firmly in the professional Cadre promoted.
Seven season games for BVB as a joker
In the current season Tigges was allowed to play seven times, each as a substitute. The last time Rose brought him in Berlin in the 81st minute for Julian Brandt. Tigges could not achieve more than his connection goal to make it 2: 3 against Hertha BSC.
Behind the undisputed Erling Haaland, the 1.93 m tall competes with youngster Youssoufa Moukoko for the place as a backup. Moukoko missed almost the entire first half of the season due to injury.
The plan for the coming days up to the start in 2022 on January 8th against Eintracht Frankfurt is already fixed for Tigges: “Spend time with the family, enjoy Christmas and then attack again in the second half of the season.”
