They got married in 2001 in Oslo Cathedral. So in the summer we celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. The couple has been together for a total of 24 years.
The combined birthday and wedding anniversary is celebrated at Oslo’s Royal Palace in a large yard party. Having seen Nordic rulers and plenty of ordinary people there.
The couple, who met at the Kristiansand festival in 1999, had a rocky start. Mette-Marit was a single parent of a small son and her ex-boyfriend had been convicted of a drug offence. The nation shuddered, but the Court of Norway welcomed Mette-Marit with open arms.
