Häagen-Dazs ice cream recalled: potentially toxic substance | Financial

Vanilla flavoring added to the ice cream may contain “minimal levels” of the toxic substance, according to the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The spokesperson for the watchdog can say little about the health risk. “But we do not recall a product if it is not necessary.”

The American producer could not be reached for an explanation.

The flavors being recalled are Belgian Chocolate (460ml and 95ml), Macadamia Nut Brittle (460ml), Praline & Cream (460ml) and Duo Vanilla Hazelnut & Caramel Crunch (420ml). The flavors have different expiration dates. Those who return the ice can find a form on the General Mills website to get their money back.

In July, Häagen-Dazs producer Genral Mills also had to recall ice cream. It then concerned Häagen-Dazs Vanilla ice cream 460ml, because it may contain small amounts of the crop protection agent ethylene oxide. The producer then advised not to eat the ice cream.
