Gymnastics World Championship: Record triumph for US team

World Championship record for women gymnasts from the USA: The US squad won the title in the team competition at the World Championships in Liverpool for the sixth time in a row, surpassing the record previously shared with Romania.

The silver medal went to hosts Great Britain, with Canada taking third place.

The old and new title holders have been undefeated at world championships for eleven years.

Even without record world champion Simone Biles, the US team achieved an unchallenged start-finish victory in the M&S Arena and celebrated their eighth title overall.

Record world champion Russia, however, was not allowed to start because of the war of aggression in Ukraine. The Russian team inflicted a surprising defeat on the US team at the Tokyo Olympics last year.

German gymnasts out in the preliminary fight

The German athletes were only there as spectators at this high-class final after they had not finished twelfth in the preliminary competition. In the medal decision, only the eight best teams are eligible to start.

The top three teams have already qualified directly for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The selection of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) must make a new attempt at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp.

The world title fights will continue on Wednesday (6.45 p.m.) with the men’s team final. Here, too, the German team is only onlookers, in the qualification it was only enough for ninth place.
