Gymnastics union KNGU has found a new technical director

Gymnastics union KNGU has found a new technical director. Jeroen van Leeuwen, who currently works as an operational manager and board member at football club PEC Zwolle, will start at the KNGU on 1 May. Van Leeuwen succeeds Mark Meijer, who retired at the beginning of this year.

Meijer announced his departure in November last year, after a turbulent period in which Dutch gymnastics had to deal with a major case involving cross-border behaviour. Men’s national coach Bram van Bokhoven (performance manager at the NOC*NSF sports umbrella) also left the KNGU, after women’s national coach Gerben Wiersma had already resigned at the beginning of 2021. Last month, general manager Marieke van der Plas announced that she will stop on 1 May.

The KNGU has now filled its first vacancy with Van Leeuwen. “Jeroen has broad and versatile management experience in recreational and top sport”, says Van der Plas. “He is driven, connecting and steady. Qualities that are necessary for the further expansion of our programs for top sport and gymnastics talent development.”
