Gut-Behrami extends lead in overall World Cup
Spring-like temperatures prevailed in Crans Montana. Because of the soft snow, the finish line was moved up – the risk of injury for the athletes was simply too high. The piste was soapy, greasy and difficult to ski – the skiers needed to be sensitive.
Lara Gut-Behrami coped best with the difficult conditions. The Swiss completed the descent in 1:19.11 minutes – thanks to her brilliant technique. With the victory, Gut-Behrami was able to further extend her lead over Mikaela Shiffrin in the overall World Cup. The ailing American has not yet revealed any comeback plans.
Weidle lacks “free skiing”
Kira Weidle came directly after Gut-Behrami. In the first training session, the star player made people sit up and take notice with her best training time. But in the race, nothing at all was right for the 27-year-old, from the material to the swing approach to the speed. Weidle crossed the finish line 1.41 seconds behind.
The “liberated skiing” It’s working at the moment, said a disappointed Weidle in an interview with ZDF. “I set the best time in the first training session – the conditions weren’t any better. Basically, the skiing is good, but I can’t put that into practice in the race. I’m already tense at the start, no matter how aggressively I can ski – that won’t work.“Emma Aicher lined up behind Weidle – she was 1.45 seconds behind.
