Gustaph defends our country in the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest: “I’m going to fight hard for it” | Music

MusicGustaph (42) will perform during the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest on Thursday 11 May. This became clear on Tuesday evening during the draw in Liverpool, the city where the song festival takes place this year.

Gustaph, the stage name of Stef Caers, will sing the danceable ‘Because of you’ in the first half of the second semi-final. He has to compete against fifteen other countries, including Albania, Australia, Armenia, Denmark and Cyprus. “I am very happy with this draw,” said Gustaph. “At the same time, it is also a bit scary: things just got real (laughs) Of course I knew I was going to Liverpool, but now I really realize that it is going to happen.”

“You often hear that the second semi-final is a bit easier to get through,” Gustaph continues. “That is possible, but in the end there are so many factors that play a role. A lot also depends on the numbers. If there are a lot of ballads, for example, my song stands out more. According to some friends, that means that I will definitely continue (laughs) Anyway: I am positive, and very much looking forward to telling my story. I will fight hard for it in Liverpool, and really want to make my homeland proud.”

In the first semi-final, on Tuesday 9 May, Portugal, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, among others, will take part. The ten best artists from each semi-final will advance to the grand final on Saturday 13 May. Ukraine, last year’s winner, is already in the final. Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, members of the so-called ‘big five’, are also assured of a ticket.
