Gust Lootens wins Memorial Danny Jonckheere

Lootens, Coppens and Vangheluwe escaped from a leading group of nine in the penultimate lap. The lead was only ten seconds, but thanks to Soudal-Quick.Step Devo’s blocking work, the threesome were able to sprint for the victory. Vangheluwe, winner of the Mandel-Leie-Schelde circuit on Saturday, pulled off the sprint perfectly for his teammate, who made it easily. This is an important victory for Gust Lootens after four unlucky years. “I’m still hoping for a professional contract. Otherwise it will start working next year,” says Lootens after the finish.

Jasper Dejaegher from Gistel received the green jersey of the points classification in the U23 road series, a regularity criterion with competitions in the Netherlands and Belgium. In the overall standings he is second, after the Dutchman Huub Artz.
