Many friends and companions of the football legend were there at Franz Beckenbauer’s funeral service. This also includes Günther Jauch, who reported on his memories of the “Emperor”.
The death of Franz Beckenbauer touched many people in Germany. At the funeral service yesterday, Friday, there were not only tens of thousands on site, but also millions tuning in on their home screens. Both RTL and ARD broadcast the event from Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Günther Jauch was also a guest at the RTL broadcast. In an interview with Florian König, the moderator spoke about his memories of Beckenbauer; Jauch and the “Kaiser” were friends. “I always tried to keep in touch. I always wrote to him on his birthday,” said Jauch.
In response he kept getting greeting cards. “Now for Christmas the card came with the signatures of all the children and of course him.” But Beckenbauer was apparently no longer able to sign it himself. “You noticed then that he could no longer sign himself. I knew then that he was no longer feeling too well,” added Jauch.
Beckenbauer died at the beginning of January at the age of 78.
