Gündogan and Gosens join the DFB team

Champions League winners Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) and Robin Gosens (Inter Milan) joined the German national soccer team late Wednesday afternoon.

This means that national coach Hansi Flick has completed his squad for the two outstanding international matches on Friday (8:45 p.m. / ARD) in Warsaw against Poland and on Tuesday (8:45 p.m. / RTL) in Gelsenkirchen against Colombia.

Gündogan will probably not be used in Poland yet. “My last stand from the conversation with Hansi was that I’m not playing against Poland yet, but then in Gelsenkirchen,” said the ManCity captain according to the Bild newspaper after arriving at the Hotel Kempinski Gravenbruch in Frankfurt.

Gündogan and Gosens were granted days off after the premier class final, which ManCity won 1-0 against Inter in Istanbul last Saturday. “It was celebrated hard, but I’m more of the reticent. It’s still difficult to realize, I need a few more days. But the days were nice, even with family and friends who were all in the stadium,” said Gündogan.

The DFB selection travels to Warsaw after the final training session on Thursday. In the first of three international matches at the end of the season, Flick’s team only played 3-3 against Ukraine. “I’m looking forward to the tasks now and I hope that after the successes I can bring some momentum into it so that we can end the season well with the national team,” said Gündogan.
