The traditional club is back: VfL Gummersbach has been confirmed as the first promoted team from the second handball Bundesliga. A 27:27 draw by the closest pursuer ASV Hamm-Westfalen at TV Großwallstadt on Tuesday evening (May 10th, 2022) was enough for the Gummersbachers.

Hamm traded the minus point 23 in the table with the draw. Gummersbach can, however, even have five defeats in a row with a maximum points account of 54:22 – just like the third-placed HSG Nordhorn-Lingen. Gummersbach is definitely better than Hamm and on par with the third in the table. This means that VfL can no longer be pushed out of one of the first two places.
