Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien talks about Radiohead’s future plans, saying they “maybe happen…maybe not”.
With the band set to take a break in 2020, O’Brien discusses Radiohead’s future activities in an interview for The Line-Up podcast. He says: “It could happen, but the other thing is… it couldn’t happen. And is that important? There is no Radiohead at the moment. There is truth in what we do. So we’re not going to be one of those bands that gets together for the big payday.”
“For the foreseeable future, everyone will do their own thing”
O’Brien previously opened up to NME about a possible reunion with the band while discussing his debut album Earth in 2020. “We’re an ongoing band and have online meetings – recently there was a Zoom call. We talk about all sorts of things, but for the foreseeable future everyone is doing their thing. If it feels right to come back to Radiohead, then we will.”
The guitarist doesn’t give a clear confirmation that Radiohead will meet again, but he does indicate that it is quite possible. He also says on the podcast, “The thing about Radiohead is that in a couple of years we could do something. Or not. But I think it has to be five people who say, ‘I really want to do that with you guys again’. And I think right now, because we’ve been doing it for so long, we’ve all had different experiences. And that should be allowed, and that should be encouraged. (…) We love each other. We are brothers. We’ll probably play together.”
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano) and Jonny Greenwood (guitar, keyboards) have formed a new band called The Smile with Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner. They released their debut album, A Light for Attracting Attention, on June 17th. Radiohead’s last studio album to date was released in 2016, A Moon Shaped Pool. Her last tour to date was in 2018. Most recently, they released the triple album KID A MNESIA (2021), which combines their records Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001).
