Tottenham Hotspur strengthen between the posts with Empoli FC’s Guglielmo Vicario. The 26-year-old is leaving his native Italy for the first time and is reported to cost 19 million euros, which is the most expensive transfer by a keeper this summer. Meanwhile, Spurs have never spent so much money on a goalkeeper.
Vicario became a regular in Empoli in Serie A and increased his market value within two years from 2 million to currently 16 million euros. This is only surpassed by two Italian goalkeepers. The Tottenham squad for the new season includes five goalkeepers, including Vicario, including the veterans Hugo Lloris and Fraser Forster, whose working papers end in 2024. Captain Lloris has been set for years, but last season he was out twice longer due to injury. Forster stepped in as backup.
