“Guests of wind up to 150 km/h”: weatherman warns for tomorrow
“This is reminiscent of the heavy storm of January 1990 that caused a lot of damage. Tomorrow will be a day to keep a close eye on,” says weatherman Geert Naessens.
“A new peripheral fault that deepens into a major storm depression, called Eunice, will then continue with an intense rainfall area in the morning. It will become drier towards and after the afternoon, after which a heavy wind field will slide over our region. We must therefore take into account with a hefty storm with gusts that can reach well over 100 km per hour.”
“Centre of gravity between 12-1pm and 4-5pm”
“At the sea, most models calculate peak speeds of up to 130 km per hour, but there are also many fine-grained models that go well beyond that! Some even go up to 140-150 km per hour. These are very strong wind gusts that certainly cause damage. will occur.”
“All models also calculate wind gusts up to or above 120 km per hour deep inland. The center of gravity of the storm is between 12-13 o’clock and 16-17 o’clock. Afterwards, the wind would gradually start to abate, but strong gusts of wind remain possible,” says Geert Naessens.
The RMI also predicts between 120 and 150 km/h on the coast and between 100 and 140 km/h for the province of West Flanders.

“Take precautions and be careful!”
“So expect a heavy storm tomorrow. Take precautions, don’t go for a walk or park near trees, capture what is loose and don’t go outside during the storm, but wait until it’s over. soft with maxima from the front double digits.”
As bad as storm in 1990?
“To give an idea and for those who still remember or experienced it, but this storm is comparable to the series of storms that we had in January / February 1990. It has many similarities with the heavy storm of 25/01/ 1990, which then caused a lot of damage on a very extensive scale.
Hopefully the trajectory will adapt a bit last minute, but I’m afraid because it really doesn’t look good. In the evening it will remain stormy for some time, it is only in the night that the wind will gradually decrease. There will also be a number of scattered showers,” concludes weatherman Geert Naessens.
