The Florentine fashion house travels to London for Gucci creative director Sabato de Sarno’s first cruise collection. The upcoming Cruise collection will be shown in the British capital on May 13, Gucci announced on Monday.
The show is not only de Sarno’s Cruise debut, but also a journey into the brand’s past, as it finds its origins in London. It all began in 1897, when future founder Guccio Gucci discovered his love of leather goods as a doorman in the elevators of London’s Savoy Hotel before returning to Florence and founding the leather goods store of the same name in 1921.
However, this is not Gucci’s first return to the English capital. De Sarno’s predecessor, Alessandro Michele, presented his Resort 2017 collection at London’s Westminster Abbey in 2016.
