Guanyem, Junts and ERC agree to the mayoralty of Girona with Lluc Salellas as mayor

White smoke. Guanyem, Junts and ERC have reached an agreement to form a strong municipal government, with 17 councilors out of the total 27 in the Girona consistory, and which will be led by Lluc Salellas (Guanyem) as the new mayor of the city, for four years, with Gemma Geis (Junts) as deputy mayor, despite the fact that the winner of the elections was the PSC, with Sílvia Paneque as municipal leader.

All this after the last three-party meeting held this morning and after Salellas, Geis and Quim Ayats (ERC) met yesterday for the first time at the same table to outline the city project with the different proposals. The three formations had met these days bilaterally and began to work on a proposed organization chart for the future government and on a series of priority projects and city commitments. The document of the agreement includes 60 shared points and sets the programmatic axes of the municipal executive.

Guanyem’s candidate will become mayor of Girona since he will get an absolute majority of votes in the investiture on Saturday. This majority is 14 and, therefore, six more must be added to the eight councilors of the municipal group. The mathematics, in this case, are clear: Salellas only needs the six councilors of Junts. Any other sum, in addition to the discarded option of doing it with the PSC, did not reach 14. It will also do so with the three ERC councilors who will give muscle to the government. In the event that Guanyem had not achieved a majority with the pacts, Sílvia Paneque would have been mayor, since the PSC was the list with the most votes in the May 28 elections despite tying eight councilors with Guanyem.

Satisfied Salellas

With this more than likely agreement, Lluc Salellas would become the mayor of Girona during the 2023-27 term. For this reason, he was satisfied with the city’s ability to understand in a complicated economic and political context. “From Guanyem Girona we will lead a change of course, a new project for the city that makes people’s day-to-day life easier and above all improves their lives,” says the candidate from Guanyem.

Finally, Quim Ayats assures that his formation defends “a strong government, with a clear project and a defined course for Girona”. In addition, he adds that “the city has many challenges and this requires a broad government connected to Girona and the country.”
