What do you do if you are a Formula 1 fan and you can’t or don’t want to go to Zandvoort to watch the race? Then you just have your own racing party in your garden. Roef Huisman from Schoonoord did it together with his group of friends. Together with dozens of people, they watched Max Verstappen win in Zandvoort for the second time in a row.
In the garden is a large swimming pool, a mound of sand with two jacuzzis and nice seating areas. There is also a large tent, of course a fridge for beer and other drinks, the barbecue is lit, and not unimportant: a large television screen. “We always watch Formula 1 with a group of friends and then we put money in the pot every time. And then once a year we organize a big party where everyone can come. I expect about eighty people today,” says Houseman.
It promises to be a big party. “Yes, that’s just great fun to watch the race in Zandvoort together.” But do the fans get a lot from the race? “It goes better at home,” says friend Charles Prins. He also came to Zandvoort in Schoonoord today to watch the race. “We used to go to Zandvoort, but now it’s very expensive. And it’s also very pleasant.”
Most friends are fans of Max Verstappen, of course. Most already thought Max would win. A few bet on Leclerc of the Ferrari team. “The party won’t get any less if Max doesn’t win,” Huisman said. But Max did what he had to do and drove his RedBull over the finish line first. And so it remained restless for a long time in the Zandvoort in Schoonoord.
