Ground Drents-Friese Wold near Oude Willem clean and passable again after drug dumping

The two places in the Drents-Friese Wold, where drug waste was dumped earlier this month, are passable again. According to forest ranger Lysander van Oossanen, the pieces of forest land in the vicinity of the Houtvester Jansenlaan near Oude Willem have been declared clean.

As a result, the forest path that runs along the site where the dumping took place has also been reopened. The trail was closed after a pungent odor was smelled and reported on August 8. It soon became apparent that plants had been affected by this. It is probably amphetamine, also known as speed.

“After the waste was removed, monitoring wells were installed at the same location to measure the groundwater. The results were favorable,” says Van Oossanen. To clean up the soil, about 25 cubic meters of soil was excavated at both locations. “This week that soil will be replenished.”

Staatsbosbeheer hopes to be able to cover the costs of the soil remediation through a fund.
