Too many people are driving faster than allowed due to the Overflow in Grootebroek. A thorn in the side for Ingrid and her neighbors. “I have been fighting for improvements here for years, it is unsafe and the municipality has been doing nothing for years,” says Ingrid.
Although the maximum speed is thirty, many people drive faster. “It is an access road to the neighbourhood. Many people drive home here quickly, because, for example, the food is already ready,” says Ingrid. According to her, the broad road is also an invitation to step on the gas just a little deeper than is allowed. “There are thresholds, but those are more increases. You can also cross them with 80”, says Ingrid.

According to the neighborhood it is not clearly indicated that you are only allowed thirty. “We would like to see a large ’30’ placed on the asphalt. Now it is too little noticeable, because motorists also have to cross a bicycle path when entering the neighborhood. They then look at the cyclists and do not see the sign.” notes Ingrid. According to Ingrid, it is slightly clearer when driving out. “I think a lot of people don’t realize until they finish: ‘Oh, I was only allowed 30?’ Yes, then it will be too late.”
According to her, crossing the busy road is also difficult. “There is a primary school and childcare in the neighborhood, so many small children have to cross the road,” says Ingrid. According to her, it would be a good solution to also place a number of zebra crossings. “Many parents have to take their children to school because it is too unsafe. But the elderly also have trouble crossing the road.”
Neighborhood meeting
Tonight there is a neighborhood meeting where the alderman for traffic will talk to the local residents. It is expected that more than fifty people will be present. The problem has been going on for some time, previously the street campaigned under the name ’30 is sat’. The municipality indicated that it only wanted to answer questions about the problems after the meeting.
Moving plans
Ingrid has lived at the Overstort for 33 years, and the last four years of this she has campaigned on behalf of the committee ’30 is sat’. She put her moving plans on hold last year, because she first wants to make the street safer. “I will not move until the municipality finally makes the street safer.”
According to her, the municipality is hiding behind the excuse that they have no money for a refurbishment of the Overflow. “Meanwhile, they are building a large playground and building a new neighborhood.” She thinks it’s a shame that this has been on the agenda for so long but nothing is happening with it.
