Groningen hockey players are not winning again. ‘It really has to be better after the winter break’

Prior to the match against Klein Zwisterland, the ladies of HC Groningen had gone five games without a win, and they added a sixth against the last team from The Hague. The meeting ended in a 1-1 draw at Harener Holt.

After last week’s 2-2 against Leonidas in Rotterdam, this means the third draw in five games. Groningen still took the lead against the women from The Hague. Noor Hakker gave her team a 1-0 lead with a nice backhand. With that score they also reached halftime, but KZ scored quickly in the third quarter.

Substandard

Trainer Julian Steen knew what the cause of the defeat was. “Technically it was substandard. We just made too many mistakes. Last week against Leonidas we played a very strong second half. Now we got off to a good start, but at the first changeover moment it was a hit for them. And that does something to us in the phase we are in now. It collapsed enormously,” Steen refers to the long period without a win.

The game against KZ was the last before the winter break. After an indoor interlude, the ladies will start back on the field in March. “And then things really have to improve, especially in terms of results. We sometimes play quite well, but that lower limit, as it is called, has to be raised. There’s work to be done!” he concludes belligerently.
