Groningen does not (yet) dare to confront property owners about a ban on converting rooms into studios. The municipality fears a claim of many tens of millions

It is expected that homeowners will not put up with a sudden ban on converting rooms into studios. Six years ago, the municipality of Groningen called for small rooms in student houses to be converted into larger studios. Renovation would lead to better quality living space. Property owners got a taste for it. The figures show that 600 permits were granted for the conversion of 3200 rooms into 2400 studios.
