The Groninger Christian male choir Albatros from Pekela will provide the so-called shopping evening concert in the foyer of theater vanBeresteyn in Veendam on Thursday 8 December, starting at 8 p.m.
Albatros originated in the early thirties of the last century from the cigar factory of the same name from Nieuwe Pekela. The 55 members come ‘from Drenthe to Dollard tou’ and, according to insiders, belong to the top of the Dutch choirs. In recent years, concerts have been given in Germany, Poland, England and Russia.
The Pekelder choir has collaborated with choirs and ensembles from the Netherlands and abroad and has performed with Louth Male Voice Choir from England, the Neva Ensemble from Russia and the Johan Willem Friso Kapel from Assen, among others.
Led by Bouke Tiggelaar, the choir will perform a varied program this evening, including Christmas carols.
