It’s a promise. And it’s big. The CDU and SPD want “the best for Berlin” for us and our city. This headline is emblazoned in large letters on the coalition agreement.

As quietly and undeterred as the two parties negotiated, I’d like to think they really mean business. Because Berlin is tired of years of messing around.

But what is “the best”? Well, we’re now so on top of the rest here that even a halfway functioning administration would fall under that. Of course, black and red want to tackle that immediately. So what is taken for granted elsewhere is now sold here as a premium! Fraud? Well, I would say the bar is really low…

In the coalition agreement signed between the SPD, the Greens and the Left in 2021, it said “Future Capital Berlin”. From today’s perspective, the only thing that remains is the realization that most of us probably imagined this future differently.

But this disillusionment will hopefully help politicians this time to focus on their tasks – not themselves.
