GroenLinks member of parliament Pepijn Baneke becomes alderman in the Gelderland municipality of Heumen. This is a neighboring municipality of Mook en Middelaar, the home of Baneke.
Until recently, Baneke (54) was an alderman in Mook en Middelaar. But because GroenLinks ended up in the opposition after the elections in March, there was no new term for him.
Alderman Mook and Mediator
Baneke was alderman in Mook en Middelaar from 2014 to 2018 and from mid-October 2019. He replaced Susan Doorenbos in that last period, first temporarily and definitively from July 2020. Doorenbos had to drop out due to health problems. Baneke will remain as a member of parliament until the elections in March next year.

Coalition Heumen
The installation of Baneke and the rest of the new aldermen’s team is planned for 7 June. However, the members of the three parties that will form the coalition in Heumen must first approve the agreement reached. It concerns Democrats Municipality Heumen (DGH), VVD and GroenLinks. Only then does Baneke want to respond.

Heumen has 17,000 inhabitants. The largest core by far is Malden. A small part of Molenhoek also falls within the municipality. The oversized part belongs to Mook and Middelaar. This makes Molenhoek one of two villages in the Netherlands that are located in two different municipalities.
