‘GroenLinks makes people’s lives miserable’

Niels van Baarlen, sidekick in the main radio show of 538, believes that GroenLinks makes life difficult for city dwellers. “That is the only thing that GroenLinks is doing. Serious.”

A lot of commotion has arisen about the proposal of Utrecht GroenLinks councilor Rachel Heijne to ban fire pits in the city. Even presenter Tim Hofman was critical: “This woman wouldn’t be able to sell bread to a hungry person, you bastard. The fossil lobby can go on holiday for a week.”

‘GroenLinks destroys everything!’

Niels van Baarlen, sidekick in the morning show of Radio 538, lives in Utrecht and it makes him furious. “Utrecht has a cabinet with GroenLinks in it. That is a local cabinet. But that GroenLinks is making the whole city shit up”, he grumbles in the program of radio star Tim Klijn.

Colleague Rick Romijn agrees with that lecture. “They do that everywhere. GroenLinks destroys everything.”

Niels: “Seriously. They are only concerned with parking spaces. They are not at all preoccupied with: how can we make the city more liveable and take it further in the world?”

‘This is what they want’

According to Tim, Niels should simply respect the wishes of the majority. “On the other hand, Niels: this is what the people of Utrecht want! They voted for this!”

Niels: “Not at all. This man is going to fuss over a fire pit. She’s going to destroy the last bit of fun someone can have in their backyard on a Saturday night.”

Newsreader Florentien van der Meulen: “This is about Rachel Heijne.”

Niels: “Well, Rachel Heijne, pack your things!”

Rick: “And get out!”

‘Make life miserable’

This Mrs. Rachel is now receiving the most terrible messages. Niels and Rick in unison: “And rightly so!”

Especially Niels is really done with that woman. “Really, boy!”

Florentien: “Where do you stop banning indeed?”

Niels: “That’s it and that’s all GroenLinks is doing. He wants to make people’s lives miserable everywhere, at all costs. Serious.”

Tim puts things into perspective: “They were elected democratically. Most of Utrecht has opted for this.”

‘Vote out!’

Niels advises people not to vote for GroenLinks in the next elections. “You have to vote GroenLinks out of those cities! They destroy a city. Really for the entrepreneurs too, right? Let’s not sit around whining. If you want a fire pit in the back of your yard for two hours, light that thing!”

He concludes: “The only ones who will be affected may be the neighbours, because the smoke may be in traffic. But they throw it on the nitrogen and the CO2. Go tackle Tata Steel! But don’t pull a fire pit out of someone’s garden at number 14! Get lost!”
