GroenLinks largest in Eindhoven, seats for newcomers Volt, PvdD, FvD

GroenLinks and the newcomers Volt, Party for the Animals (PvdD) and Forum for Democracy (FvD) are the big winners of the municipal elections in Eindhoven. VVD loses heavily. The turnout percentage in Eindhoven was disappointing: 41.8 percent of those entitled to vote went to the polls (was 46.4 percent in 2018).

GroenLinks will probably become the largest party with nine seats (was 7 seats). VVD, four years ago still the largest, drops from 7 to probably 6 seats. CDA follows together with the VVD with 6 seats.

It generates a lot of cheers at the GroenLinks table. Party chairman Rik Thijs is overjoyed: “Unbelievable. Eindhoven is opting for a climate party for the first time. I would not have dared to dream this.”

Also cause for celebration for the newcomers Volt, Party for the Animals and Forum for Democracy. The parties will probably come to the new council with two, two and one seats respectively. Elderly Appèl will probably also take an extra seat.

At eleven o’clock, the municipality of Eindhoven issued a final provisional result. At that time, 95% of the votes had been counted:

Green Left: 9 seats (was 7)
