GroenLinks faction leader Mira Hamraoui resigns: ‘Difficult decision’

GroenLinks-States faction leader Mira Hamraoui is quitting. Hamraoui has been in the Provincial Council since March of this year. She says that she cannot combine work in the one-man faction with her job at the municipality of Assen.

“I have made the decision that now is not my time to be party leader,” she said. “That’s a difficult decision, I didn’t make it overnight.”

Hamraoui became party chairman this summer after Sam Pormes left the party and continued alone. Pormes became controversial because he was sentenced in 2017 to repay unjustified PGB money. He did not report that conviction to GroenLinks. When Pormes was still group leader, Hamraoui believes that work as a member of Parliament could be better combined with her regular job.

Hamraoui returns her seat to GroenLinks. Ewoud Bos is now being put forward as a Member of Parliament. “He will succeed me on September 27, when I resign,” said the outgoing Member of Parliament.
