Groenewegen wins third stage Tour de France after mass sprint

The Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen has won the third stage in the Tour de France. The cyclist of the BikeExchange – Jayco team was slightly faster than jersey wearer Wout van Aert in the bunch sprint in Sønderborg, Denmark. The Belgian Jasper Philipsen was third.

Just like last days, the stage took place in Denmark. Because there were hardly any climbs in the course, a mass sprint was already counted in advance, with cyclists such as Groenewegen, Van Aert and Fabio Jakobsen as the biggest contenders, who won the second stage on Saturday.

Van Aert seemed to be heading for the stage win in the last meters, but was still passed by Groenewegen. Van Aert is still the leader in the standings. The best Dutchman is Mathieu van der Poel in fifth place.

For Groenewegen, it is the fifth time that he has won a stage in the Tour de France. The last time the 29-year-old rider won a stage was in 2019. The fourth stage will take place on Tuesday in northern France, from Dunkirk to Calais.
