Groen Geel will start a new season in the Korfbal League on Saturday. At the highest korfball level, the North Hollanders will compete against PhD student Unitas from Harderwijk in the first round. Trainer Daniel Harmzen is immediately keen on a victory. “We must and will win the first game”
The 37-year-old coach of the club from Wormer is looking forward to a new season of korfball. He immediately puts the pressure on the kettle. “We start against PhD student Unitas. That is the best candidate for relegation. We must and will win the first game of the competition.”
Bad closing
Despite the eagerness of the trainer, Groen Geel has had an ailing preparation. The last two games on the field were lost. “As a result, we did not finish the field season well. The focus quickly shifted to the indoor season. We won twice in that preparation. We have to continue that line,” says an eager Harmzen.
”We often failed to score easily against tactically strong opponents”
Harmzen has a clear objective in mind. Just like other years, he wants to play safe in the Korfbal League as soon as possible. “That is getting difficult. We need to become more stable offensively. We often failed to score easily against tactically strong opponents. We do need that to achieve our goal.”
End of career
The Groen Geel player group has remained fairly intact. In Wormer they only lost Susila the Klein. She decided to end her career. “De Klein was an experienced force. Yet she suffered a lot from injuries. She played little under my leadership,” says Harmzen, who is starting his third season as coach of Groen Geel. “We don’t give up much because of that.”
On the other hand, the selection is provided with a young impulse. Bjarne Hendriks came over from youth. “It is great for the club that we can transfer a youth player again. The disadvantage is that young talents always have to get used to the level. Yet they will help the club this year to achieve our goal.”
Three absentees
Harmzen will have to miss three names for this weekend. Kevin Dik takes the last steps in his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury. Scott de Decker is still struggling with ankle problems and Marieke Duinenveld is out of circulation due to a knee injury.
The new indoor season starts for Groen Geel with the home game against Unitas on Saturday at 6 pm.
