Groen Geel and Mady Tims face a tough task: “Going completely for survival”

Turbulent, that’s what you could call the past few months for korfball club Groen Geel. One player after another left the club from Wormer and a new coach arrived: Mady Tims. Under the wings of Tims, Groen Geel will have to do everything it can to maintain itself in the Korfball League again this year.

It will be Tims’ first job at the highest level. Despite the exodus of players, the 47-year-old coach has full confidence in a good outcome. “You can give up and give up, but from the moment I came in here, everyone wanted to go for it,” says Tims.

“Ideally you want to curse them out.”

“Of course the plan is to continue playing korfball at the highest level. That’s where we belong,” says Tims. “Survival would be the best result, but we also have to take into account that this cannot happen. There is a young selection and we are going to build with that.”

Nine players left Groen Geel: Stijn Hoekstra, Kevin Dik, Carlo de Vries, Terrenc Griemink, Fenna Jagtman, Noor van Duijvenbode, Scott De Dekker, Lindsy Krop, Martin Coevert

Thomas Schagen is one of the players who stayed. In retrospect, Schagen found it difficult to see two good friends in Carlo de Vries and Terrenc Griemink leave. “It has given me a number of sleepless nights. You would prefer to scold them, but I also understand that they want to go to the top with their career.

The new season of the Korfball League starts for Groen Geel with a home match against DOS ’46. The match in Wormer starts on Saturday at 7 p.m.
