Last school year, a student was temporarily or permanently banned from primary or secondary school 26,117 times. This is evident from figures collected by Flemish Member of Parliament Elisabeth Meuleman (Groen). She finds that high figure a worrying trend, “because in many cases it puts a mortgage on the further school career.”
