The Grizzlys Wolfsburg and the Straubing Tigers failed in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL).
A week after the home defeat against Lulea HF (2:3), a 1:2 (0:0, 1:0, 0:2) at the Swedish runners-up meant the end for Wolfsburg, fifth in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
After a 4-0 loss in their first encounter with Frölunda HC, Straubing faced an almost impossible task. At home there was a 2: 3 (1: 1, 1: 1, 0: 1) against the CHL record winner, the Swedes did not let any tension arise.
The quarter-finals will probably take place without DEL participation, for Red Bull Munich the signs are bad on Wednesday (7:45 p.m.) after a 1:5 home defeat against the Swiss champions EV Zug.
Grizzly striker Tyler Morley (31st) made up for the deficit from the first duel in front of 2780 spectators, Konstantin Komarek (48th) equalized.
After Wolfsburg had taken out the goalkeeper in favor of another outfield player, Oscar Engsund (60th) made the final decision.
Brandon Manning (16th) and Marcel Brandt (29th) scored in front of 4480 fans for Straubing at the powder tower.
