Griselda: Aldo Grasso’s review of the TV series

GRISELDA
Type: narco-crime
Direction: Doug Miro. With Sofia Vergara, Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappan, Martin Rodriguez, Juliana Aidén Martinez, Vanessa Ferlito. On Netflix

Sofia Vergara is “Griselda”, the Godmother of drug trafficking who scared Escobar

“The only man I was ever afraid of was a woman: Griselda Blanco.” The statement attributed to Pablo Escobar, the most dangerous of South American drug traffickers, appears at the beginning of Griseldaa six-episode Netflix series about the life of the woman who would become the “drug lord”.

We are in Colombia, at the end of the 70s: Blanco (Sofia Vergara) escapes from her violent husband at night to take refuge in Miami and from there tries in every way to build a criminal empire. However, he does not take into account the existence of other bloodthirsty gangs and with her own drug addiction, which will lead to the collapse of her plan (she was murdered in 2012).

Resuming a trend that has been characterizing Latin American crime production for about ten years (with TV series focused on criminal bosses), Griseldaconceived and produced by the same creators as Narcos, faces the torments of a complex and fragile figure who wants to elbow his way into the male world of crime and on whose trail he will find another woman, an intelligence analyst.

Vergara tries to support the weight of the entire narrative which suffers from a certain slow pace and is consumed mainly in dark environments, far from the patina of ostentation of other series on the theme.
For those who love stories of female drug traffickers and criminals.
