Grimes and Elon Musk have had another child together. The child was carried by a surrogate mother and was born at the end of last year, as has now become known.
The Canadian musician, whose real name is Claire Boucher, and the Tesla CEO already have a son together, who was born in May 2020 and whose unusual name caused a lot of controversy. The couple announced last September that they were “semi-separated” but still in love.
During a chat for a new cover feature with Vanity Fair, interviewer Devin Gordon noticed the sound of a baby crying while discussing her upcoming space opera album Book 1 with Grimes.
When asked if she’d given birth to another child, Boucher replied, “I’m not at liberty to talk about these things.”
Grimes continued, “Whatever is going on with family things, I just feel like kids need to be kept out of it, and X just is out there. I mean, I think E (Musk) really sees him as a protégé and takes him to everything and stuff… X’s out there. His situation is like this. But yeah, I don’t know.”
It later emerged that Boucher and Musk had had a baby girl through a surrogate in December. “She’s got a little bit of colic, too,” Grimes told Vanity Fair of her daughter Y. “I don’t know. I don’t know what I was thinking.” Grimes declined to reveal the child’s full name.
The couple wanted more children, but Grimes feared another pregnancy as she had serious problems during her first pregnancy.
When asked if she and Musk are still a couple, Boucher replied, “There’s no real word for it. I would probably call him my friend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We are best friends. We see each other all the time… We just have our own thing going and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”
Grimes said their relationship with Musk has never been better than it is right now, adding that the two have plans to have three to four more children.
Late last year, Boucher revealed she might change the focus of her career following the release of her next album. “The music industry feels old and tired, dependent on archaic systems,” she wrote at the time.
Grimes previously claimed that her Book 1 era was “by far the greatest work I’ve ever done.” Grimes gave a foretaste of the new album with the single “Player Of Games”, which was released in December 2021.
