In the Radio Meerdijk podcast, club watcher Jonathan Ploeg and journalist Pim Siegers discuss the luxury problem of FC Emmen coach Fred Grim. The coach will have to crack some tough nuts in the coming weeks.
Maikel Kieftenbeld started on the reserve bench at FC Emmen on Friday evening in Breda. That was a big surprise for Ploeg. “I assumed he would play, but Grim chose Jorrit Smeets,” Ploeg says in the podcast. “I find it striking that Kieftenbeld was on the bench. He always plays everything and has not diminished.”
The choice between Kieftenbeld and Smeets is not Grim’s only luxury problem. Lorenzo Burnet has recovered from an injury and has to compete with Jeff Hardeveld for the left back position, Mike te Wierik is on his way back and has to decide with Michaël Heylen who will be central in the defense. Lucas Bernadou and Ahmed El Messaoudi are additional options in midfield and in attack Rui Mendes is almost capable of playing an entire match.
