Top scorer Vincenzo Grifo is again fully available to Bundesliga club SC Freiburg in the home game against FC Augsburg on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky). “He could play again,” said coach Christian Streich: “He hasn’t been able to train much, but he’s healthy again.”
Grifo had missed the game at VfL Wolfsburg (0:6) last Saturday due to illness and was only substituted on in the final phase against Eintracht Frankfurt (1:1) on Wednesday.
Streich, on the other hand, has to do without Nicolas Höfler, who is suspended. The midfielder’s absence “doesn’t cause the 57-year-old a headache. Then other players come in,” said Streich: “It’s just part of the game.” He did not want to reveal who Höfler represents.
Streich expects a “tricky task” against Augsburg. The team no longer “has anything to do with the team from the first half of the season”. At that time, Freiburg, who are still waiting for their first Bundesliga win in 2023, clearly won 4-0.
Streich didn’t want to make a game prediction: “Every game has its own story. That’s what makes it so extraordinary. Who can predict how things will turn out tomorrow? It’s the little things that matter.”
