Greta Thunberg wants to stay more in the background as a climate activist. She has told the German magazine ‘Brigitte Be Green’ that she “wants to keep doing a lot”, but that she will be less visible in the media.

The Swedish teenager, now 19 years old, is one of the best-known climate activists in the world. In 2018, as a 15-year-old, she protested in front of the parliament in Stockholm. Thunberg carried a sign that read “school strike for the climate”. In doing so, she inspired young people worldwide to demonstrate for more action against climate change.

According to Thunberg, it is time to “pass the microphone”. She believes more should be listened to to the people most affected by climate change. In the interview, she again shared her position on nuclear power plants, namely that she prefers them to coal-fired power plants.

Thunberg’s statements come shortly before the UN climate summit in Egypt, COP27. The climate activist will not be present next month, unlike last year’s climate summit in Scotland. “I’m not needed there,” she previously told the British broadcaster BBC. Even then, she stated that it is more important to focus attention on people from the worst affected areas.
