Greta Scarano: «Never stop being feminists»

Greta Scarano: «I was born in Rome, I grew up with the media story of the trial»

Circeo traces the history dThis is a painful event in our history, the so-called “Circeo massacre”, when three scions of the good Rome (Andrea Ghira, Gianni Guido and Angelo Izzo) kidnapped and tortured two “village” girls for 36 hours and then abandoned them in the trunk of the car. They were Rosaria Lopez (played in the series by the actress Adalgisa Manfrida), who will die shortly thereafter due to the terrible violence she suffered, and Donatella Colasanti (Ambrosia Caldarelli), who passed away in 2005.

Speaking about these facts, Scarano explained. «I remember an interview with Donatella Colasanti that struck me greatly. I was born in Rome, I grew up with the media story of the trial, I went to study black subversion, that terrible period in which the events took place». And he added: «In addition to feminicide, I understood that they were mixed many other thingsthe class struggle and there were political implications.”

«Feminism is not the opposite of machismo»

To play Teresa Capogrossi, Scarano said she was inspired by Mariella Gramaglia. «She was a journalist, a historical feminist. I saw a long interview on RaiPlay, I brought her combative attitude with me. She manages to protect Donatella and transforms. Thanks to her, he abandons certain rigidities, certain settings that he had before meeting her».

Greta Scarano also explains what the word “feminist” means to her. «It means demanding and wanting equal rights not only for women, but for all discriminated against people. Feminism is not the opposite of machismo, it is an important and high concept and we need to talk about it. We can never stop being feminists.”
