“Greta, bend down, there’s eel”: Kevin Russell’s hate speech against Thunberg

On Instagram, Böhse-Onkelz singer Kevin Russell made an obscene comment about Thunberg.

In a Böhse Onkelz song he describes himself as “Kevin, your voice from the gutter”. It’s no surprise that Kevin Russell isn’t necessarily expected to have the finesse when it comes to language. What Russell recently said in the comments on his Instagram account was a lot more questionable than usual.

Russell made a vulgar comment against Greta Thunberg in the comments section. Thunberg is currently heavily criticized because she takes a one-sided stance on the Gaza war: she criticizes Israel and hides the Israeli deaths in her expressions of solidarity for the Palestinians. However, the Onkelz singer’s comments are not about Middle East politics – he attacks the environmental activist in a sexist manner.

Russell posted a photo of himself with lots of firewood for the stove. “Just don’t let Thunberg or Habeck see that,” commented one fan. The 59-year-old musician then said about the 20-year-old climate activist: “I’m saying it quite banally, Gretha [sic!] Bend over, there is eel”. Vulgar words that probably come in similar form thousands of times from Internet users who think little of climate protection.

The fact that the singer of one of the most successful German rock bands (and that’s the Onkelz, whether you like them or not) trumpets something so stupid: even with a caliber like Russell, it should be seen as a surprise.

What else we learn about the singer, who caused a serious traffic accident and hit-and-run while high on drugs in 2009 (and was later imprisoned for it), on Instagram: Russell doesn’t celebrate Christmas, “but the ancient Roman Saturnalia. These holidays were celebrated from December 17th until the Christians put an end to it and covered it with tall tales from the Bible!” He also likes to respond ambiguously to comments from female fans. When a woman commented on the photo of his hand with the words “I would take the ring straight away,” Russell replied frankly: “And I would take you straight away too. ;-))”.

He apparently doesn’t like Karl Lauterbach either: “And Klabauterbach is an alien,” he wrote under his Greta Thunberg comment. Just like Frei Wild singer Philipp Burger, he also can’t resist taking a dig at him.

No verified account

The account “Kevin Richard Russell Official” does not have a blue tick and therefore official verification from Instagram. However, the official account of Böhse-Onkelz bassist Stephan Weidner links to the page, which has around 26,000 followers.
