Grenade removed from building in Den Bosch, neighborhood heard a bang at night

A grenade was found early Saturday morning at a boarded-up tanning salon on Hildebrandstraat in Den Bosch. The explosive was hanging from a piece of tape. The EOD has removed the grenade.

Some local residents were awakened by a bang on Friday night. “At first we had the idea that fireworks had gone off.” They immediately alerted the police. It is not yet clear whether anything actually exploded.

money laundering
The affected case is a tanning salon. It was recently closed by the municipality. The case was closed earlier this week.

According to the Brabants Dagblad Mayor Jack Mikkers took this decision to ‘put an end to a serious disturbance of public order’. Bertie van D. would be the owner of the tanning salon. He was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for his involvement in crystal meth labs. The building in Hildebrandstraat would be used to launder money.

One of the local residents says that it was often restless around the tanning salon. She’s afraid this won’t be the last incident.

Eight buildings evacuated
The explosive device discovered Saturday morning was hanging from a rope outside the store. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the police decided to immediately secure the area. Eight surrounding buildings were evacuated and a radius of fifty meters was cordoned off.

Several emergency services were called. After the first assessment by a specialist from the police, it was decided to also have the EOD come. The roundabout near the store was closed. The explosive was removed around half past ten.

A closer look at new measures
At around a quarter to twelve Saturday morning, one side of Hildebrandstraat was released. This means that four of the eight buildings are accessible again. “The side of the case where the explosive was found will remain closed for a while,” a police spokesperson said. “This has to do with the technical trace investigation.” The rest of the street was reopened around 1 p.m.

The municipality of Den Bosch does not yet know whether new measures will be taken to restore peace in the neighborhood due to the threatening situation on Saturday morning. “This needs to be looked into more closely,” a spokesperson said.

Images fleeing person
CCTV footage shows a person running away from the building. The person runs from Hildebrandstraat towards Potgieterhof and has thus crossed over towards Bilderdijkstraat. The police are curious if there may be more camera images that show something. She also wants to know if there are people who have seen something.
