Dusseldorf (Reuters) – In the dispute between the traffic light coalition about a speed limit on motorways, the traffic policy spokesman for the Greens, Stefan Gelbhaar, has called for proposals from the FDP on CO2 savings.
“We want to get off oil, we want to get off Russian oil,” said Gelbhaar on Tuesday on ARD. Therefore, a speed limit is being discussed in the traffic light coalition, which the FDP has so far opposed. “At the end of the day, the point is that the FDP might make other suggestions on how to save on oil.”
The climate protection law will force Minister of Transport Volker Wissing (FDP) to submit proposals in the coming months on how CO2 can be saved after Germany again failed to meet the climate targets last year.
The Greens have been calling for a general speed limit on motorways for a long time. In the coalition agreement, however, this was ruled out primarily at the insistence of the FDP. By 2030, Germany wants to reduce its emissions by 65 percent compared to 1990. The previous federal government had stipulated this, but no longer decided on instruments for the tightened requirements.
