Green Yellow has made an excellent start in the battle for enforcement in the Korfball League. In the first game of the play-downs, the team from Wormer beat Dalto. On a visit to Driebergen, they won 17-23.
Opponent Dalto was sentenced to the play-downs after losing the final of the Korfbal League 2 to HKC. Groen Geel knew it had to start the game strong and did so. Thanks to an unparalleled opening phase, coach Dico Dik’s team ran out to a generous 3-9 lead.
Especially Carlo de Vries and Kevin Dik were important for Groen Geel with nice shots from a distance. Partly thanks to several striking hits from both men, Groen Geel went into the break with a difference of five points: 7-12.
Fanatic fans
In the second half, the crowd in the packed sports hall in Driebergen once again stood behind the home team. Groen Geel, supported by an equally fanatical fan base, was not put off and held on to the lead. On the Dalto side, there was a lot of criticism of the arbitration. Dalto coach Barry Schep, who was at the helm of Blauw-Wit in the past, even received a yellow card for the many complaints towards the referee duo.
In the final phase it became exciting when Dalto came to only two points. Fortunately, Green Yellow kept their wits about them and the victory was secured. In the end it became 17-23.
Thanks to the victory, Groen Geel is doing good business in the battle for enforcement in the Korfball League. In the best of three series, it is therefore 1-0 ahead. The second game will follow in Wormer on Tuesday 18 April. If Dalto wins the second game, a decisive third game will be played on Saturday, April 22 in Driebergen.
