Norwegian salmon farmer Columbi will soon build the largest land-based salmon farm in Western Europe in Ostend. They farmed and slaughtered 12,000 tons of Atlantic salmon per year. The further processing of the fish then takes place elsewhere.
The company has been working on a project in Plassendale near Ostend for more than two years. Now Flemish Minister of Environment Zuhal Demir also gives the green light. The Norwegian company now wants to invest 450 million euros and promises about a hundred jobs.
