A Forensic Psychiatric Center is a treatment center that admits patients who have committed criminal offenses due to a mental disorder, but do not belong in a prison.
Today there are two FPCs, in Antwerp and Ghent, and projects have been started for centers in Wavre, Paifve in Liège and Aalst. Now the government has also given the green light for the development of an FPC in Ostend, with a capacity of 400 to 450 places. The preparatory phase for this is underway, according to Verlinden’s spokesperson.
