The body of the deceased person was found in the water by a bystander around 10:20 this morning.
The person saw the body lying in the water next to the Kanaaldijk in IJmuiden, between the ferry and the lock. The police cannot yet say anything about the identity of the victim.
Forensics are investigating
Since this morning, investigators have been investigating the identity of the victim and the cause of death at the North Sea Canal. A police spokesperson calls it “remarkable that someone was found in the water there.” The police cannot say how long the investigation will take.
